77Translate privacy policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
This policy covers the 77Translate Chrome extension only. The 77Fox desktop app, web app and 77Fox browser extension are covered by the 77Fox privacy policy. Privacy Policy
What we do not collect
77Translate has no account system. It does not collect browsing history, URLs, page content or any personally identifiable information, and it contains no analytics or advertising SDK.
Where page text goes
Text leaves the browser only when you trigger a translation (clicking the bubble or the context menu, hovering the dot after selecting text, turning on subtitle translation, or adding a site to auto-translate). The relevant passages are sent to the translation service you selected: by default Google's public translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com); with your own key, only to that provider. Those services handle the text under their own privacy policies; 77Translate neither relays nor stores it.
API keys
Provider keys you enter are kept only in Chrome's local storage on this device, never in Chrome sync, and are used only for requests to that provider. You can clear them from the settings at any time.
Preferences
Target language, display mode, translation style, auto-translate sites and similar preferences are stored in Chrome sync storage and travel with your Chrome account to your other devices. They contain no keys and no page content.
Local cache
Translations are stored in the browser's IndexedDB for up to 30 days and 50 MB so reopening a page needs no new request. Clearing the browser's site data or using the clear button in the settings removes it.
Model catalog from 77-fox.com
To group OpenRouter models for users with their own key, the extension fetches a model catalog from 77-fox.com's public endpoint at most once a day. It is a plain GET request with no cookies, keys or personal data; the server keeps only standard web access logs.
Permissions
storage keeps preferences and keys; scripting injects the translation script into pages that were already open when the extension was installed or updated, and into pages where you right-click before the script has loaded; contextMenus provides the right-click item; access to all websites is needed to show translations, the dot and the bubble on any page you open. The extension reads no page data unrelated to translation.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
77Translate's use of information received from the browser adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell data and do not use it for advertising or creditworthiness.
